After our pioneer students got their O-level results at the end of their Secondary education, several of them returned to Lesedi clutching their results slips and asking what they should do now. For most of these young adults, further education just isn’t an option without additional support.

We were keen to offer some assistance, but mindful not to overstretch ourselves - either financially or in terms of manpower to monitor the support given. So we decided to establish a Further Education Fund in order to support some of our students to continue in education post Lesedi. Our priority in 2026 has been to assist some of our brightest students to study for A-level examinations. A maximum of three subjects are chosen to study at an advanced level over a two year period. A-level exams are a gateway to a degree or other tertiary education qualifications. Going forwards we may consider adding support for college courses, to enable our youngsters to learn a trade - subject of course to funding levels. Clearly we don’t want to divert donations away from supporting our core focus at Lesedi - or to be asking too much of our wonderful supporters. But this feels like a really important continuation of our valuable work.
